DTC P171C
DTC P171C : Park Pawl System Multiple Sensor Correlation
General Description
The park pawl actuator driver unit controls the park pawl actuator to switch the position to parking or non-parking by the command from the powertrain control module (PCM). When the switching to the parking position or the non-parking position is completed, the parking position or the non-parking position detected by the park pawl actuator driver unit and the parking position or the non-parking position detected by the park position sensor transmitted from the PCM are compared. If the information of the parking position or the non-parking position differs, the PCM receives malfunction from the park pawl actuator driver unit and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
The parking position or the non-parking position detected by the park pawl actuator driver unit and the parking position or the non-parking position detected by the park position sensor transmitted from the PCM differs for at least 40 milliseconds.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Park pawl actuator failure
- Transmission (e-CVT) (transmission park mechanism) failure
Confirmation Procedure
Operating Condition
- Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 10 seconds.
- While pressing the brake pedal, shift to N position/mode, then shift to P position/mode and wait at least 5 seconds.
With the HDS
None.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the shift position indicator blinks and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The shift position indicator comes off by turning the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode. The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
