DTC P0341:  Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor A and Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Incorrect Phase Detected

General Description

The powertrain control module (PCM) detects intake camshaft phase from pulsing signal output from camshaft position (CMP) sensor A. The PCM determines the advance or the retard of the intake camshaft phase according to the signals from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and CMP sensor A. If the intake camshaft reference phase value deviates from a set range over a specified time period while the variable valve timing control (VTC) is not activated, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold 

The measured intake camshaft phase difference between CMP sensor A and CKP sensor is 10.0 deg. or more for at least 2.0 seconds.

NOTE:  The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure 

Operating Condition 

Enter the maintenance mode, then start the engine, and let it idle. When the diagnosis does not finish, allow the engine cool to an engine coolant temperature of ambient temperature, then restart the engine, and let it idle.

With the HDS 

Select the VTC TEST in the Function Test Menu with the HDS.

Diagnosis Details 

Conditions for setting the DTC 

When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the PCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC 

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
