DTC C1420-29  : Main Torque Sensor and Sub Torque Sensor Incorrect Correlation

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

DTC Description DTC Freeze Frame
C1420-29 Main Torque Sensor and Sub Torque Sensor Incorrect Correlation    

DTC (EPS)

  1. DTC check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the READY TO DRIVE mode.

    -4. Turn the steering wheel to left and right several times, and keep holding each direction for 10 seconds.

    -5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    C1420-29 Main Torque Sensor and Sub Torque Sensor Incorrect Correlation    
    C1421-14 Main Torque Sensor Malfunction    
    C1422-14 Sub Torque Sensor Malfunction    

    Is DTC C1420-29 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    YES 

    If DTC C1421-14 or C1422-14 are also indicated, go to DTC C1421-14  or C1422-14  troubleshooting.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting . If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

  2. Torque sensor internal resistance check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Torque sensor 6P connector

    -3. On the sensor side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2 individually (see table).

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Torque sensor 6P connector: disconnected
    Test Circuit Torque Sensor 6P Connector (male terminals): Reference resistance value
    Test point 1 Test point 2
    T/S_VDD - T/S_GND No. 5 No. 3 141-175 Ω
    TSM - T/S_GND No. 2 No. 3 179-244 Ω
    TSS - T/S_GND No. 4 No. 3 179-244 Ω

    Is the resistance OK?

    YES 

    Check for loose terminals and poor connections at the EPS control unit connectors. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good EPS motor/control unit , then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good EPS motor/control unit, replace the original EPS motor/control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the steering gearbox .
