Rear Differential Disassembly and Reassembly: Reassembly: Procedure

Replace
  1. Rear Differential Solenoid Valve - Install
  2. Oil Pump Body Assembly - Install
  3. Differential Clutch Assembly - Install
  4. Baffle Cover - Install
  5. Oil Pump Case - Install

    1. Remove the dirt and oil from the sealing surfaces.

    2. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08718-0004 or 08718-0009) evenly to the sealing surface.

    3. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket. Make sure you seal the entire circumference of the bolt holes to prevent fluid leakage.

    NOTE: 

    • If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply the new liquid gasket.
    • Allow it to cure at least 30 minutes after assembly before filling the differential with recommended fluid.
  6. Fluid Strainer - Install
  7. Inner Rotor/Outer Rotor - Install

    NOTE: 

    • While aligning the notch-cut (A) of the inner rotor (B) with the notch-cut of the clutch guide shaft (C), install the inner rotor and the outer rotor (D).
    • Install the inner rotor and the outer rotor with the marks (E) facing the oil pump case side.
  8. Oil Pump Cover - Install
  9. Oil Seal (Propeller Shaft Side) - Install

    1. Install the oil seal (A) even and flush with the rear differential oil pump cover using the 40 mm I.D. driver handle.
  10. Companion Flange - Install

    1. Set the companion flange (A) to the clutch guide shaft.

    2. Drive on the companion flange using the 41.8 mm oil seal driver.

    3. Check the length of clutch guide shaft as shown.
    NOTE:  Make sure to drive on the companion flange until 2 to 3 thread pitches of the clutch guide shaft appears.

    4. Apply rear differential fluid to the used locknut.

    5. Set the used locknut to the clutch guide shaft.

    6. Install the companion flange holder and the holder handle on the companion flange.

    7. Tighten the used locknut.

    8. Remove the used locknut, the companion flange holder, and the holder handle.

    9. Check the companion flange has been set to the bottom.

  11. Back-Up Ring - Install
  12. Spring Washer - Install

    NOTE:  Make sure the spring washer is installed in the correct direction.

  13. Locknut - Install

    1. Install the companion flange holder and the holder handle on the companion flange.

    2. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque.

    3. Stake the locknut tab (A) into the groove in the clutch guide shaft.
  14. Pump Drive Joint - Install

    1. Align the bulge (A) of pump drive joint with the groove (B) of the rear differential.
  15. Rear Differential Pump Motor - Install

    1. Align the shaft (A) of the rear differential pump motor with the groove (B) of the pump drive joint.
  16. Rear Differential Solenoid Valve Connector Assembly - Install
  17. Rear Differential Fluid Pressure Sensor - Install
  18. Rear Differential Fluid Temperature Sensor - Install
  19. Sensor Cover - Install
  20. Oil Seals (Driveshaft Side) - Install

    1. Install the oil seal (A) even and flush with the machined edge of the differential carrier assembly using the 40 mm I.D. driver handle.
  21. Drain Plug - Install
  22. Filler Plug - Install
  23. Harness Bracket D - Install
  24. Harness Bracket B - Install
  25. Harness Bracket A - Install
  26. Rear Differential Subharness - Install
