DTC P1F3C
DTC P1F3C: VCU Over Temperature
General Description
The power control unit (PCU) monitors the IGBT chip temperature sensor value to prevent malfunction of the chip due to heat generation. If the IGBT chip temperature sensor output temperature is a specified voltage for a specified time, the motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 100 milliseconds or more*11 seconds or more** |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL on, POWER SYSTEM indicator on |
*: Symptom 1
**: Symptom 2
Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| High voltage side power supply voltage (6 V) | 5 V | - |
Malfunction Threshold
One of these symptoms occurs:
Symptom 1
- If the detection temperature of the IGBT chip temperature sensor at the voltage control unit (VCU) side is more than 311 deg.F (155 deg.C) at the High side (S3, S4) and more than 331 deg.F (166 deg.C) at the Low side (S1, S2) for at least 100 milliseconds.
Symptom 2
- If the detection temperature of the IGBT chip temperature sensor at the VCU side is more than 281 deg.F (138 deg.C) at the High side (S3, S4) and more than 306 deg.F (152 deg.C) at the Low side (S1, S2) for at least 11 seconds.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Radiator fan control (RFC) unit line failure
- PCU electric coolant pump line failure
- Water pipe leak
- Water pipe clogged
- PCU coolant temperature sensor failure
- RFC unit failure
- PCU electric coolant pump failure
- PCU internal failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the motor control module memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
