DTC P15A5
DTC P15A5: Traction Motor Inverter Current Too High
General Description
The power control unit (PCU) controls the traction motor output and detects overcurrent based on the motor phase current sensor signals. If either of the following conditions occurs, the motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Symptom 1
If an overcurrent is detected in motor phase current, a failure information is output to the main microcomputer. If an overcurrent occurs in specified times, the motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
Symptom 2
If an overcurrent detection circuit is malfunctioning, a failure information is not output to the main microcomputer. If a current sensor signal reaches an over current state in specified times, the motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Malfunction Threshold
One of these symptoms occurs:
Symptom 1
- If the output voltage from the current sensor exceeds the specified value and an overcurrent is detected 3 times within 1.2 seconds.
Symptom 2
- If the output voltage from the current sensor transfers from the normal range to the failure range 3 times within 1.2 seconds.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Traction motor power cable line failure
- Traction motor motor rotor position sensor line failure
- Traction motor failure
- Traction motor motor rotor position sensor failure
- PCU internal failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the motor control module memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
