DTC P0A4C: Generator Motor Rotor Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
General Description
The power control unit (PCU) detects the generator motor position by the R/D converter based on the generator motor motor rotor position sensor signals. If any of following conditions continues for a specified time, the motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.
- R/D converter excitation abnormal bit is detected.
- Excitation output circuit short detection bit is detected.
- Sine/cosine signal offset voltage abnormal is detected.
- Sine/cosine signal offset voltage upper limit abnormal is detected.

Malfunction Threshold
Any of following conditions occurs:
- R/D converter excitation abnormal bit is as 1 for at least 280 milliseconds.
- Excitation output circuit short detection bit is as 1 for at least 230 milliseconds.
- Sine/cosine signal offset voltage is out of range from 2.10 - 2.90 V for at least 280 milliseconds.
- Sine/cosine signal offset voltage is 4.90 V or more for at least 210 milliseconds.
Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor R1G/R2G line open
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor R1G/R2G line short to ground
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor R1G/R2G line short to generator motor motor rotor position sensor S1G/S2G/S3G/S4G line
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor S1G/S2G/S3G/S4G line short to other line
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor miss installed
- Generator motor motor rotor position sensor failure
- PCU internal failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the motor control module memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
