DTC P0710
DTC P0710: Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
General Description
The traction motor is cooled by an automatic transmission fluid (ATF)-based oil cooling system and the power control unit (PCU) obtains the ATF temperature and traction motor temperature signals. Normally, the traction motor temperature and the ATF temperature become nearly the same value immediately after the traction motor is started when it is sufficiently cooled down. The motor control module in the PCU detects a malfunction and stores a DTC when the difference between the ATF temperature and the traction motor temperature immediately after the motor is started is equal to or more than the prescribed value continuously for the prescribed time or more.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | 3 seconds or more |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL on, POWER SYSTEM indicator on |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | Minimum | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Elapsed time after the vehicle condition is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode | 5 hours 50 minutes | - |
| Traction motor absolute torque value | - | 10 N*m (1 kgf*m, 7.3 Ibf*ft) |
Malfunction Threshold
The difference between the ATF temperature [ATF Temperature (TRC)] and the traction motor temperature is more than 90 deg.F (50 deg.C) for at least 3 seconds.

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
- Traction motor temperature sensor failure
- Transmission fluid temperature sensor failure
- PCU internal failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the motor control module memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
