DTC C0031-14, C0034-14, C0037-14, C003A-14

DTC C0031-14  : Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Circuit Short To Ground or Open)

DTC C0034-14  : Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Circuit Short To Ground or Open)

DTC C0037-14  : Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Circuit Short To Ground or Open)

DTC C003A-14  : Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Circuit Short To Ground or Open)

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .

DTC (VSA)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.

    -4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    C003A-14 Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Failure (Circuit Short To Ground or Open)  

    Is DTC C0031-14, C0034-14, C0037-14, or C003A-14 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Refer to intermittent failures troubleshooting .

  2. Shorted wire check (Wheel speed sensor lines to ground)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector

    -3. Measure the resistance between body ground and the appropriate wheel speed sensor +B and GND terminals of the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector individually (see table).

    Is there 1 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    Wheel speed sensor wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Wheel speed sensor wires are shorted to ground. Go to step 3.

  3. Wheel speed sensor(s) check 1

    -1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front)
    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear)

    -2. On the sensor side, measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front): disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear): disconnected

      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground
    Test circuit 2

    Is there 1 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the wheel speed sensor.

    NO 

    Replace the appropriate wheel speed sensor .

  4. Shorted wire check (Wheel speed sensor lines to power)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Measure the voltage between body ground and the appropriate wheel speed sensor +B and GND terminals of the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector individually (see table).

    Is there 1 V or more?

    YES 

    The wheel speed sensor wires are shorted to power. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    The wheel speed sensor wires are not shorted to power. Go to step 6.

  5. Wheel speed sensor(s) check 2

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front)
    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear)

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. On the sensor side, measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle ON mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front): disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear): disconnected
    Test circuit 1  
    Test point 1 Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground
    Test circuit 2

      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (male terminals) No. 4:

    Is there 1 V or more?

    YES 

    Replace the appropriate wheel speed sensor .

    NO 

    Repair a short to power in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the appropriate wheel speed sensor.

  6. Shorted wire check (Wheel speed sensor lines wire to wire)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front)
    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear)

    -3. Measure the resistance between the appropriate VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector wheel speed sensor +B and GND terminals (see table).

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front): disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear): disconnected

    Is there 1 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    The wheel speed sensor wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Repair a short in the wires between the VSA modulator-control unit and the appropriate wheel speed sensor.

  7. Open wire check (Wheel speed sensor lines) 1

    -1. Measure the resistance between the appropriate VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector terminal and the appropriate wheel speed sensor connector terminal (see table).

      VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector: disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front): disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear): disconnected

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the appropriate wheel speed sensor.

  8. Open wire check (Wheel speed sensor lines) 2

    -1. Measure the resistance between the appropriate VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector terminal and the appropriate wheel speed sensor connector terminal (see table).

      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front): disconnected
      Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear): disconnected

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The wheel speed sensor wires are OK. Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the wire between the VSA modulator-control unit and the appropriate wheel speed sensor.

  9. Wheel speed sensor(s) check

    -1. Substitute a known-good wheel speed sensor .

    C003A-14 Right-rear

    -2. Reconnect the following connectors.

    VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector
    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 2P connector (front)
    Appropriate wheel speed sensor 4P connector (rear)

    -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode, then to the ON mode.

    -6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC C0031-14, C0034-14, C0037-14, or C003A-14 indicated?

    YES 

    Check for loose terminals and poor connections in the VSA modulator-control unit 46P connector. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting. If they are OK, replace the VSA modulator-control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the original wheel speed sensor .
