DTC P0AE1:  HV Battery Precharge Contactor Circuit

General Description

In electric powertrain system, the high voltage contactor between the battery pack and the inverter is turned ON to operate the electric powertrain system after vehicle condition is turned to the ON mode. At this time, the high voltage sub contactor and the bypass contactor are turned ON before the high voltage contactor is turned ON, and the power drive unit (PDU) capacitor is gradually charged by the controlled current of the bypass resistor. When the difference of the voltage between the inverter and the battery pack is within the specified value, the high voltage contactor is turned ON and the bypass contactor is turned OFF. If the difference of the voltage between the inverter and the battery pack does not become a specified value for a set time after the bypass contactor is turned ON, the battery condition monitor module detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type

Execution Once per driving cycle
Sequence None
Duration 660 milliseconds or more
DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL off, POWER SYSTEM indicator on, 12 VOLT CHARGING SYSTEM indicator on

Enable Conditions

Condition Minimum Maximum
Elapsed time after the bypass contactor on 340 milliseconds -
Battery condition monitor module power-supply voltage 10.2 V -
Vehicle ON mode
Other MPI module voltage must be lower than battery pack voltage

Malfunction Threshold

The difference between the MPI module voltage and the battery pack voltage is more than 9.3 V after 660 milliseconds past from the bypass contactor is turned ON.

Possible Cause

NOTE:  The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.

Confirmation Procedure

Operating condition

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the battery condition monitor module memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command or the battery condition monitor module reset.
