DTC P0AA3:  HV Battery Sub Contactor Circuit

In electric powertrain system, if the vehicle condition is turned to the OFF (LOCK) mode when the vehicle is in a stationary condition, or when electric powertrain system is stopped due to a fail safe action, the high voltage sub contactor turns OFF which was ON during the electric powertrain system was activated. Under an ON malfunction condition of the high voltage sub contactor, the power drive unit (PDU) capacitor is gradually charged by the battery pack, and the inverter voltage rises if the battery condition monitor module sends an ON command of the bypass contactor. The battery condition monitor module monitors the voltage value through the inverter voltage sensor. If the voltage difference of the inverter voltage before and after turning the bypass contactor ON continues to be at a specified value for a certain period of time, the battery condition monitor module detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

DTC Type One drive cycle, MIL off, POWER SYSTEM indicator on, 12 VOLT CHARGING SYSTEM indicator off

Malfunction Threshold 

The voltage difference between the MPI module voltage before and after turning the bypass contactor ON is more than 48 V and continues for 100 milliseconds or more.

Conditions for setting the DTC 

When a malfunction is detected, a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the battery condition monitor module memory. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the DTC 

The Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool clear command or the battery condition monitor module reset.
