Steering Rack End Removal and Installation: Removal

NOTE: 

  1. Steering Gearbox - Remove 
  2. Tie-Rod End - Remove

  3. Rack End Boot - Remove

    1. Remove the boot band (A).

    2. Remove the tie-rod clip (B).

    3. Pull the boot (C) away from the ends of the steering gearbox.

  4. Rack End - Remove

    1. Hold the gearbox housing using a C-clamp (A) and wooden blocks (B) to a workbench as shown.
    NOTE: 
    • Be careful not to damage the mounting surface with a C-clamp.
    • Do not clamp the cylinder part of the gearbox housing with a C-clamp.

    2. Unscrew the rack end (A) with a wrench.
    NOTE: 
    • Hold the flat surfaces (B) with a wrench when unscrewing both rack ends.
    • Be careful not to damage the rack surface.

    3. Remove the rack end and the rubber stopper (C).
