Driver's Airbag Removal and Installation: Removal

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:  If replacing the driver's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

  1. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect

    NOTE:  Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

  2. Driver's Airbag - Remove

    1. Insert a punch (A) (diameter of 5.5 mm) through the left hole of the steering wheel cover and push the spring (B) to release the front airbag pin (C) while pulling out the airbag. Repeat for the right side.

    2. Pull up on both locking tabs (D) to disconnect the connector (E).

    NOTE:  Be careful not to damage the connectors.

    3. Disconnect the connector (F).

    4. Remove the driver's airbag (G).

  3. Spring - Remove (If necessary)

    1. Remove the springs (A) from the steering wheel (B).
    NOTE:  Be careful not to damage the steering wheel.
