Power Tailgate Symptom Troubleshooting - Hands free access function does not work

NOTE: 

  1. Parameter check

    -1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) .

    -2. While checking the below HDS parameter, use a forward and backward kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper.

    Signal Current conditions
    Value Unit
    Hands Free Access Signal Detected    

    Dose the display value change during the kicking motion?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Go to step 4.

  2. Keyless access system check

    -1. Select HISTORY DATA from the KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT mode menu with the HDS.

    One-Push - KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT - History data/Clear

    Check the input history of the hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor.

    Is information of the history data normally?

    YES 

    Replace the power tailgate control unit .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Open wire check (KICK_SNSR line) 1

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector
    Body control module connector G (32P)

    -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    Body control module connector G (32P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body control module connector G (32P) No. 24

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The KICK_SNSR wire is OK. Replace the body control module .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  4. Determine possible failure area (Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor, KICK_SNSR line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector

    -3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
    Terminal B Body ground

    -4. With connection and disconnection of the jumper wire, check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

    Signal Current conditions
    Value Unit
    Hands Free Access Signal Detected    

    Is information value inverted normally?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  5. Determine possible failure area (Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor, +B_RR_FOG, GND lines)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector

    -2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 3:

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Replace the hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor .

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  6. Open wire check (+B_RR_FOG line)

    -1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    Test point 1 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there battery voltage?

    YES 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the GND wire.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the +B_RR_FOG wire.

  7. Shorted wire check (KICK_SNSR line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

    -3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    Body control module connector G (32P): disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 1.0 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

  8. Open wire check (KICK_SNSR line) 2

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
    Body control module connector G (32P): disconnected
    Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P) No. 13

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  9. Power tailgate control unit check (substitution)

    -1. Substitute a known-good power tailgate control unit , and recheck.

    Is the system OK?

    YES 

    Replace the original power tailgate control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the body control module .
