DTC B1388

DTC B1388  : Power Tailgate Drive Motor circuit malfunction

NOTE:

B1388 Power Tailgate Drive Motor circuit malfunction  

DTC (Power Tailgate Control Unit)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

    -2. Open the tailgate.

    -3. Close the tailgate automatically with the keyless transmitter or power tailgate inside switch.

    -4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    B1388 Power Tailgate Drive Motor circuit malfunction  

    Is DTC B1388 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

  2. Power tailgate motor check

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Test the power tailgate motor .

    Is the motor OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Faulty power tailgate motor; replace the power tailgate drive unit .

  3. Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL_PTM+ line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connector.

    Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P)

    -2. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P): disconnected
    Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P): disconnected
       
    Test point 1 Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P) (male terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 1.0 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    The PTG/PTL_PTM+ wire is not shorted. Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

  4. Shorted wire check (PTG/PTL_PTM- line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P): disconnected
    Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P): disconnected
       
    Test point 1 Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P) (male terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there 1.0 MΩ or more?

    YES 

    The PTG/PTL_PTM- wire is not shorted. Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair a short to ground in the wire.

  5. Open wire check (PTG/PTL_PTM+ line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P): disconnected
    Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P): disconnected
       
    Test point 1 Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P) (male terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P) No. 3

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    The PTG/PTL_PTM+ wire is not opened. Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  6. Open wire check (PTG/PTL_PTM- line)

    -1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P): disconnected
    Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P): disconnected
       
    Test point 1 Power tailgate drive unit connector A (2P) (male terminals) No. 2:
    Test point 2 Power tailgate control unit connector C (5P) No. 5

    Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

    YES 

    Replace the power tailgate control unit .

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
