Front Brake Pad Removal, Installation, and Inspection: Removal

NOTE: Review the Service Precautions before doing repairs or service .

1. Brake Fluid - Remove

   1. Remove some brake fluid from the reservoir.

2. Vehicle - Lift
3. Front Wheels - Remove
4. Brake Pad - Remove

   1. Remove the brake hose mounting bolt (A). 2. Remove the flange bolt (B) while holding the caliper pin (C) with a wrench. NOTE:  Be careful not to damage the pin boot. 3. Pivot the caliper body (D) up out of the way. Be careful when pivoting the caliper body up or the spring could pop out of position. Check the hose and the pin boots for damage and deterioration.

   4. Remove the pad return springs (A). 5. Remove the pad shims (B) and the brake pads (C). 6. Remove the pad retainers (D). NOTE:  The upper and lower pad retainers are different. During installation, make sure the pad retainers are in the proper positions. 7. Clean the caliper bracket (E) thoroughly; remove any rust, and check for grooves and cracks. 8. Verify that the caliper pins (F) move in and out smoothly. Clean and lube if needed.
