DTC P1009 (2.4 L Engine) (2017 2018 2019)

DTC P1009  : VTC Advance Malfunction

NOTE: 

• Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information .
• If DTC P0341 is stored at the same time as DTC P1009, troubleshoot DTC P1009 first, then recheck for DTC P0341.
• If DTC P1009 set after replacing the VTC actuator, verify that the correct timing marks on the crank pulley were used.

DTC (PGM-FI)

1. Problem verification

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

   -3. Start the engine.

   -4. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

   DTC Description	Confirmed DTC	Pending DTC
   P1009 VTC Advance Malfunction

   Is DTC P1009 indicated?

   YES 

   Go to step 2.

   NO 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot .

2. VTC oil control solenoid valve operation check

   -1. Test the VTC oil control solenoid valve .

   Is the VTC oil control solenoid valve OK?

   YES 

   Go to step 3.

   NO 

   Replace the VTC oil control solenoid valve .

3. VTC actuator check

   -1. Inspect the VTC actuator .

   Is the actuator OK?

   YES 

   Check the VTC system oil passages and clean them if needed.

   NO 

   Replace the VTC actuator .
