DTC P05A0, P05AF
DTC P05A0: Shutter Grille Assembly (Upper) Malfunction DTC P05AF: Shutter Grille Assembly (Lower) Malfunction
General Description
The shutter grille system opens/closes the shutter depending on the driving conditions. The system improves fuel efficiency by reducing the wind drag. The shutter is controlled by the shutter grille which includes the actuator with CPU. The powertrain control module (PCM) sends open/close requests which depends on the driving conditions to the shutter grille via the local interconnect network (LIN) line. If the shutter grille actuator detects a restriction and if the restriction condition continues even if the initial learning is retried for a specified time, the PCM confirms the abnormality and stores a DTC.
Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type
| Execution | Continuous |
| Sequence | None |
| Duration | Initial learning retry three times, and more than 2.5 seconds |
| DTC Type | One drive cycle, MIL off |
Enable Conditions
| Condition | |
|---|---|
| State of the engine | Running |
Malfunction Threshold
Both of the conditions occur:
- The shutter grille actuator detects a restriction and if the restriction condition continues for at least 2.5 seconds after the initial learning is retried for three times.
- The engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor 1 output temperature [ECT SENSOR 1] is 225 deg. F (107 deg. C) * 1 (221 deg. F (105 deg. C) *2) or more and the ECT sensor 2 output temperature [ECT SENSOR 2] is 209 deg. F (98 deg. C) or more.
*1: 1.5 L engine
*2: 2.4 L engine

Possible Cause
NOTE: The causes shown may not be a complete list of all potential problems, and it is possible that there may be other causes.
DTC: P05A0
- Upper shutter grille stuck
- Temporary restriction of the upper shutter grille by foreign matter or freezing.
- Upper shutter grille failure
DTC: P05AF
- Lower shutter grille stuck
- Temporary restriction of the lower shutter grille by foreign matter or freezing.
- Lower shutter grille failure
Common
- PCM internal circuit failure
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the PGM-FI display comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory. The MIL does not come on.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The PGM-FI display is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The PGM-FI display, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command.
