DTC P0010 (2.4 L Engine) (2017 2018 2019)

DTC P0010:  Variable Valve Timing Control (VTC) Oil Control Solenoid Valve Malfunction

General Description

The variable valve timing control (VTC) consists of the VTC actuator, the VTC oil control solenoid valve, various sensors, and the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM controls the VTC oil control solenoid valve by duty cycle and supplies hydraulic pressure to the advance chamber or the retard chamber in the actuator so the valve timing is optimized depending on the driving conditions (engine load, engine speed, and vehicle speed). If the current compared to the output duty cycle is out of a set value, the PCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC

When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC

The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.
