Cylinder Head Removal and Installation (1.5 L Engine): Removal

WARNING: 

Please carefully read "Precaution for Handling Sodium-Filled Valves" and follow the instructions as the exhaust valves contain metal sodium .

NOTE: 

  1. Fuel Pressure - Relieve
  2. Engine Coolant - Drain
  3. Air Cleaner - Remove
  4. TWC Assembly - Remove
  5. Turbocharger - Remove
  6. VTC Oil Control Solenoid Valve B - Remove
  7. Intake Manifold - Remove
  8. High Pressure Fuel Pump - Remove
  9. Injector - Remove
  10. Harness Holder Mounting Bolt - Remove

  11. Cylinder Head Cover - Remove 
  12. EVAP Canister Purge Valve - Remove
  13. CMP Sensor A/B - Remove
  14. High Pressure Fuel Pump Base - Remove

    1. Remove the ground cables (A).

    2. Remove the harness holders (B).

    3. Remove the heater hose bracket (A) and the harness holder brackets (B).

    4. Remove the cam holder cover (A).

    5. Remove the high pressure fuel pump base (A).
  15. Thermostat Housing - Remove
  16. Cam Chain - Remove
  17. Camshaft - Remove
  18. Rocker Arm Assembly - Remove
  19. Cylinder Head - Remove

    1. Remove the cylinder head bolts. To prevent warpage, loosen the bolts in sequence, 1/3 turn at a time, repeat the sequence until all bolts are loosened.

    2. Remove the cylinder head.
