Power Tailgate Symptom Troubleshooting - Hands free access function does not work

NOTE:

Check the fuses and relays associated with the system, and check for a short in the related lines.
Before troubleshooting, check for B-CAN DTCs. If any DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the indicated DTC first. The system stops the hands-free access function when the keyless access control unit has a DTC stored for such as the LF/RF antenna and so on.
Make sure the power tailgate opens and closes normally from the driver's power tailgate switch, tailgate outer handle switch and the keyless remote.
The power tailgate system is programmed to protect the system from overheating. After the system is operated continuously, it may not respond to the inputs for a certain period of time. In such cases, try to reproduce the failure again after waiting for a while.

Parameter check

-1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) .

-2. While checking the below HDS parameter, use a forward and backward kicking motion under the center of the rear bumper.

Dose the display value change during the kicking motion?

YES

Go to step 2.

Go to step 4.

Keyless access system check
-1. Select HISTORY DATA from the KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT mode menu with the HDS.

One-Push - KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT - History data/Clear

Check the input history of the hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor.

Is information of the history data normally?

YES

Replace the power tailgate control unit .

NO

Go to step 3.

Open wire check (KICK SNSR line) 1

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

-2. Disconnect the following connector.

Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector Body control module connector G (32P)

-3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected Body control module connector G (32P): disconnected
Test point 1	Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:

Test point 2

Body control module connector G (32P) No. 24

Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

YES

The KICK SNSR wire is OK. Replace the body control module .

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

Determine possible failure area (Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor, KICK SNSR line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

-2. Disconnect the following connector.

Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector

-3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

Terminal A	Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:
Terminal B	Body ground

-4. With connection and disconnection of the jumper wire, check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

Is information value inverted normally?

YES

Go to step 5.

Go to step 7.

Determine possible failure area (Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor, +B RR FOG, GND lines)

-1. Disconnect the following connector.

Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector

-2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
Test point 1	Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 2:

Is there battery voltage?

YES

Replace the hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor .

Go to step 6.

Open wire check (+B RR FOG line)

-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected
Test point 1	Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 2:
Test point 2	Body ground

Is there battery voltage?

YES

Repair an open or high resistance in the GND wire or poor ground (G505 (except japan production) / G506 (japan production)).

Repair an open or high resistance in the +B RR FOG wire.

Shorted wire check (KICK SNSR line)

-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

-2. Disconnect the following connector.

Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P)

-3. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Is there 1.0 MΩ or more?

YES

Go to step 8.

Repair a short to ground in the wire.

Open wire check (KICK SNSR line) 2

-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.

Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector: disconnected Body control module connector G (32P): disconnected Power tailgate control unit connector A (24P): disconnected
Test point 1	Hands free access power tailgate control unit/sensor 3P connector (male terminals) No. 1:

Is there 1.0 Ω or less?

YES

Go to step 9.

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

Power tailgate control unit check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good power tailgate control unit , and recheck.

Is the system OK?

YES

Replace the original power tailgate control unit .

NO

Replace the body control module .
