Blind Spot Information (BSI) System Description

The Blind Spot Information (BSI) radar unit emits radar waves from the left and right BSI radar and detects other vehicles in the blind spot. BSI system function uses the BSI radar unit. The BSI alert indicators warn the driver when a vehicle enters the driver's side or the passenger's side blind spot alert zone. If the driver turns on the turn signal while the BSI alert is on, the BSI alert flashes and an audible alarm sounds to warn the driver.

If the BSI radar unit malfunctions, the BSI system stops operating. The vehicle alerts the driver that there is a problem by turning on a warning indicator on the gauge control module.

Radar Zone Definition

The BSI radars are installed on the left and right sides of the rear body panel and covered by the bumper. The mounting positions are symmetrical on the left and the right.

BSI System

The radar wave emission range and the vehicle detection range of the BSI radar unit are shown. They are symmetrical. The alert zone makes up only a part of the radar detection range.

Blind Spot Information (BSI) system

The BSI system alerts the driver by the BSI alert indicator when a vehicle enters the blind spot alert zone. See Warn Conditions for more information.

Warning Conditions

Under normal conditions, the BSI system generally does not alert stationary objects like highway infrastructure, guardrails, posts, walls, foliage, parked cars, etc. The system also doesn't notify when vehicles are traveling in the opposite direction.
