Brake Pedal and Brake Pedal Position Switch Adjustment: Adjustment

NOTE:  There are two types of electric brake boosters (type A or B) that can be differentiated visually. Make sure which booster type is equipped before doing any repairs or service .

1. Steering Joint Cover - Remove
2. Brake Pedal Height - Inspect

   1. Pull back the carpet (A) and the insulation (B). 2. Measure the pedal height (C) from the left side upper point (D) of the pedal pad to the tab (E) on the floor without the insulation.NOTE:  If the standard pedal height is out of specifications, check for body damage around the brake pedal mounting area and on the brake pedal assembly.

   Standard pedal height:

   215 +/- 5 mm (8.46 +/- 0.20 in)

3. Brake Pedal Position Switch - Adjust

   1. Remove the brake pedal position switch 2. Lift up on the brake pedal by hand. 3. Push in the brake pedal position switch (A) until its plunger is fully pressed (threaded end (B) touching the pad (C) on the pedal arm). 4. Turn the switch 45 deg. clockwise to lock it. The gap between the brake pedal position switch and the pad is automatically adjusted to 0.7 mm (0.028 in) by locking the switch. 5. Make sure the brake lights go off when the pedal is released.

4. Brake Pedal Free Play - Check

   1. Inspect the free play (A) at the brake pedal pad (B) by pushing the brake pedal by hand. If the brake pedal free play is out of specification, adjust the brake pedal position switch (C). If the brake pedal free play is insufficient, it may result in brake drag.

   Free play:

   2.7-8.2 mm (0.106-0.323 in)

5. All Removed Parts - Install

   1. Install all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
