P084F (A/T)

DTC P084F  : Parking Position Signal Circuit

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the General Troubleshooting Information .

DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC Freeze Frame
P084F Parking Position Signal Circuit      

DTC (A/T)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    -2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    -3. Start the engine.

    -4. While pressing the brake pedal, shift the transmission to N position/mode.

    -5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC P084F indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections and loose terminals between the body control module and the TCM. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

  2. Open wire check (PARKOUT/ATP-P line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    -2. Disconnect the following connectors.

    TCM connector A (23P)
    Body control module connector A (66 P)

    -3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      TCM connector A (23P): disconnected
      Body control module connector A (66 P): disconnected
    Test point 1 TCM connector A (23P) No. 22
    Test point 2 Body control module connector A (66 P) No. 21

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The PARKOUT/ATP-P wire is not open. Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the PARKOUT/ATP-P wire between the body control module and the TCM.

  3. Shorted wire check (PARKOUT/ATP-P line)

    -1. Disconnect the following connectors.

    Power seat control unit connector A (20P) (with DPMS)

    -2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      TCM connector A (23P): disconnected
      Body control module connector A (66 P): disconnected
      Power seat control unit connector A (20P) (with DPMS): disconnected
    Test point 1 TCM connector A (23P) No. 22
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short to ground in the PARKOUT/ATP-P wire between the body control module and the TCM.

    NO 

    The PARKOUT/ATP-P wire is OK. Go to step 4.

  4. Shorted unit check:

    Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 while reconnecting these connectors, one at a time:

    • Body control module connector A (66 P)
    • Power seat control unit connector A (20P) (with DPMS)
    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      TCM connector A (23P): disconnected
      Body control module connector A (66 P): disconnected
      Power seat control unit connector A (20P) (with DPMS): disconnected
    Test point 1 TCM connector A (23P) No. 22
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Replace the unit that caused the shorted wire when it was reconnected.

    NO 

    The units are OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good TCM , then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the TCM was substituted, replace the original TCM .
