P0716, P0717, P0718 (A/T)

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the General Troubleshooting Information .

DTC (A/T)

1. Problem verification

   -1. Raise the vehicle on a lift. Make sure it is securely supported, and allow all four wheels to rotate freely.

   -2. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   -3. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

   -4. Start the engine, disable the VSA .

   -5. Run the vehicle at speeds over 13 mph (21 km/h). Compare the parameters below with the HDS.

   Are the speeds about the same?

   YES 

   Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections and loose terminals between the mainshaft speed sensor and the TCM. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

   NO 

   The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

2. Mainshaft speed sensor check

   -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   -2. Substitute a known-good mainshaft speed sensor .

   -3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   -4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

   -5. Test-drive under these conditions:

   DTC	Test Condition
   P0716P0717	Start the engine, disable the VSA . Run the vehicle in 2nd gear at speeds over 13 mph (21 km/h) for at least 2 seconds.
   P0718	Start the engine, disable the VSA . Run the vehicle from 1st gear to 10th gear at speeds over 13 mph (21 km/h).

   -6. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

   Is DTC P0716, P0717, or P0718 indicated?

   YES 

   The mainshaft speed sensor is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good TCM , then recheck. If this DTC goes away and the TCM was substituted, replace the original TCM .

   NO 

   Replace the original mainshaft speed sensor .
