Roof Opening Panel Frame: Installation

NOTE: For additional material guidelines, refer to the manufacturer's installation information.

  1. 1.

    NOTE: Avoid scratching the painted surfaces. Repair all minor scratches or exposed metal following manufacturer's instructions. Use the same brand pinch weld primer, glass primer and urethane adhesive.

    Prepare the urethane path on the vehicle for primer application.

    1. 1.

      NOTE: Maximum 2 mm (0.08 in) bead thickness.

      Using a knife, trim the urethane path.

      Use the General Equipment: Knife

    1. 2.

      NOTE: Touching the adhesive surface will impair rebonding.
      NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material

      Using the specified cleaner, clean the urethane path.

      Material

      : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep / ZC-31-B

    NOTE: Avoid scratching the painted surfaces. Repair all minor scratches or exposed metal following manufacturer's instructions. Use the same brand pinch weld primer, glass primer and urethane adhesive.

    Prepare the urethane path on the roof opening panel frame for primer application.

    1. 1.

      NOTE: Maximum 2 mm (0.08 in) bead thickness.

      If installing the original roof. Using a knife, trim the urethane path on the roof opening panel frame.

    1. 2.

      NOTE: The yellow area is the expected urethane adhesive path.
      NOTE: Touching the adhesive surface will impair rebonding.

      If installing a new or original roof. Make sure the spacer blocks are located in the proper locations.

    NOTE: Be sure to use the same brand and cure-rate products for the urethane adhesive and glass primer. Do not mix different brands of urethane adhesive and glass primer. For additional information, refer to the MATERIALS .

    Prepare the urethane path on the vehicle for priming.

    1. 1.

      Using a clean soft brush, apply the specified material to the urethane path.

      Material

      : Sika Urethane Metal and Glass Primer / Sika 206 G+P

    1. 2.

      Allow 10 minutes drying time for the primer.

    NOTE: Be sure to use the same brand and cure-rate products for the urethane adhesive and glass primer. Do not mix different brands of urethane adhesive and glass primer. For additional information, refer to the MATERIALS .

    Prepare the urethane path on the roof opening panel frame.

    1. 1.

      Using the specified cleaner, clean the urethane path on the vehicle.

      Material

      : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep / ZC-31-B

    1. 2.

      Using a clean soft brush, apply the specified primer to the urethane path.

      Material

      : Sika Urethane Metal and Glass Primer / Sika 206 G+P

    1. 3.

      Allow 10 minutes drying time for the primer.

  1. 5.

    Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip as specified.

    Material

    : SikaTack® MACH 60 / ---

    Material

    : Sika Tack ASAP Urethane Adhesive

    The new urethane adhesive bead must be 14 mm (0.551 in) high and 8 mm (0.314 in) wide.

    : Sika Tack ASAP Urethane Adhesive

    NOTE: Use either a high-ratio, electric or battery-operated caulk gun that will apply the urethane adhesive with less effort and continuous bead using the existing trimmed urethane adhesive as a guide.

    Apply the specified urethane adhesive as shown in illustration.

    : Sika Tack ASAP Urethane Adhesive

    WARNING: Do not drive vehicle until the urethane adhesive seal has cured. Follow urethane adhesive manufacturer's curing directions. Inadequate or incorrect curing of the urethane adhesive seal will adversely affect glass retention. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
    NOTE: During the curing time of the polyurethane adhesive, the door windows must be left open.

    With the help of assistants, install the roof opening panel frame and then firmly apply downward pressure to the entire sealing edges of the roof opening panel frame to make sure it is seated correctly against the spacer blocks.

  1. 9.

    Attach the wiring harness retainer and connect the electrical connectors.

    On both sides. Connect the roof opening panel drain hose.

    Install the RTM mounting bracket and the retainer.

    Install the RTM and connect the electrical connector.

  1. 13.

    Install the side curtain airbag. REFER to: Side Curtain Airbag .

  1. 14.

    Install the air deflector. REFER to: Air Deflector  - Vehicles With: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel.

  1. 15.

    Install the roof opening panel shield. REFER to: Roof Opening Panel Shield  - Vehicles With: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel.

  1. 16.

    Install the roof opening panel motors. REFER to: Roof Opening Panel Motor  - Vehicles With: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel.

  1. 17.

    Install the rear window glass. REFER to: Fixed Glass .

  1. 18.

    If installing the original frame. Install the seals.

    NOTE: New trim panel retaining clips come installed on a new frame.

    Install the panoramic roof opening trim panels. REFER to: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel Trim  - Vehicles With: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel.

    Install the roof opening panel glass. REFER to: Roof Opening Panel Glass  - Vehicles With: Panoramic Roof Opening Panel.
