Pinpoint Test A : The Roof Opening Panel Has Excessive Wind Noise: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Lincoln MKZ. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

When the roof opening panel glass is completely closed, it is flush with the roof panel. When the roof opening panel glass is in the vent position, the leading edge of the glass panel should contact the front trim panel seal. The roof opening panel seals provide a seal against adverse weather conditions such as rain and wind, preventing them from entering the passenger compartment. A damaged, deformed or incorrectly installed seal is unable to effectively seal the glass. The roof opening panel air deflector deflects the air flow over the roof opening panel when the panel is in the vent or open positions, a damaged or incorrectly installed air deflector is unable to effectively deflect the air flow.

With the roof opening panel fully open and vehicle speed increases to approximately 50 mph (80 km/h), the roof opening panel will automatically close approximately 8 in (20 cm) to reduce excessive wind noise at higher speeds. This feature only functions one time per key cycle so the glass can be opened further if desired.
