Component Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Lincoln MKZ. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Air Deflector

The air deflector is moved up and down by the movement of the roof opening panel glass.

Roof Opening Panel Control Switch

The roof opening panel control switch may be a touch-sensitive switch that has no motion or sound to indicate the switch has been activated. The touch-sensitive switch consists of multiple touch sensitive areas of control for opening and closing the shield, and for opening, closing and venting the glass.

Roof Opening Panel Anti-Pinch Switch

The roof opening panel anti-pinch switch is a 2 wire switch directly wired to the primary roof opening panel motor. The switch runs along the complete path of the sealing area of the roof opening panel glass. If an object is between the roof and the glass as the roof is closed the switch contacts touch providing a ground signal to the primary motor. The primary motor immediately reverses direction, opening the roof opening panel. If there is any issue with the pinch switch that causes bounce back and remains for more than 30 seconds the motor will ignore the anti-pinch switch, and after a key cycle will operate the glass by pressing and holding the control switch (manual mode) to open or close.

Roof Opening Panel Frame

A new roof opening panel frame consists of the following:

Roof Opening Panel Glass

The roof opening panel glass includes the brackets (installed) and retainers required secure the glass to the front and rear sifter arms.

Front Lifter Arms

The front lifter arms are the drive links that connect the motors to the glass by a cable. The front lifter arms come pre-assembled with all sliders, shoes and bushings necessary for moving the glass along the frame rail.

Rear Lifter Arms

The rear lifter arms are idler links that connect the glass to the frame and slides along the rail as the glass moves open or closed. The rear lifter arms come pre-assembled with all sliders, shoes and bushings necessary for moving the glass along the frame rail.

Front And Rear Cams

The front and rear cams are attached to the front and rear of the frame rails to receive the lifter arm sliders, positioning the roof opening panel glass in the sealed position.

Roof Opening Panel Motors (Primary And Secondary)

There are 2 motors that provide the movement of the roof opening panel glass. Both motors are connected to both sides of the glass and operate simultaneously when opening or closing the roof opening panel. The RH motor is the primary motor and the LH motor is the secondary motor. The primary motor has 9 circuits in a single connector and the secondary motor has 4 circuits in a single connector. There is communication between the motors and if one motor becomes inoperative the other will not operate. There is also an thermal protection for the motors. At approximately 212°F (100°C) the motor will shut down and will reset when the motor cools. This can happen with interior vehicle temperature or if the motor is used many times consecutively causing an over temperature condition.

Roof Opening Panel Cable And Guide Assembly

The roof opening panel cable and guide assembly has copper tubes housing the drive cables. There are black flexible return tubes to house the drive cables on the return side of all motors. The tubes and cables run up the D-pillar between the motors and the frame/rails near the rear of the roof opening panel glass. The drive cables attach to the front lifter arms providing the movement of the roof opening panel glass. The cable and guide assembly includes the motor mounting block.
