Comfort Stop
With the roof opening panel fully open and vehicle speed increases to approximately 50 mph (km/h), the roof opening panel will automatically close approximately 8 in (20 cm) to reduce excessive wind noise at higher speeds. This feature only functions one time per key cycle so the glass can be opened further if desired.
Roof Opening Panel Shield
To open the roof opening panel shield, touch and release the shield open symbol. The roof opening panel shield will open automatically. The roof opening panel shield movement can be stopped at any time by touching the switch again. To close the roof opening panel shield, touch and release the shield close symbol. The roof opening panel shield will close automatically. The roof opening panel shield movement can be stopped at any time by touching the switch again. If the roof opening panel shield is in the open position and the vehicle is placed in REVERSE, the shield will close to a predetermined position.
Bounce Back
The roof opening panel glass has a bounce back feature that is activated by the anti-pinch switch. If an obstacle has been detected in the roof opening panel as the sliding glass is closing, the roof opening panel will automatically open and stop at a predetermined position. The anti-pinch switch is located around the glass opening (near the main compression seal) and is wired directly to the roof opening panel primary motor. When the primary motor receives this signal it sends the data on the K-BUS to the secondary motor and the glass reverses immediately. The primary motor monitors the position of the roof opening panel glass and at a predetermined position near the point where the glass begins to move down to seal, the motors ignore the anti-pinch switch signal. If the anti-pinch switch remains activated (pressed) or is shorted for more than 30 seconds the module will ignore the anti-pinch switch. A key cycle will then allow the glass to close and operate by pressing and holding the control switch (manual mode) for open or close.
Global Open
The global open feature may be enabled/disabled via scan tool or in some cases modified by the customer following a procedure listed in the vehicle Owner's Literature. If the global open function is enabled, it can be activated by pressing and holding the unlock button of the RKE for 2 seconds. The BCM then sends a signal on the global open circuit to open both front door windows and the roof opening panel shield motor. The roof opening panel shield motor then sends this information to both roof opening panel motors on the K-BUS to open. If the accessory delay relay is active, the global open feature will not operate.
Motors And Cable And Guide Assemblies
There are 2 motors that provide the movement of the roof opening panel glass, and 1 motor for moving the shield. Both glass motors are connected to both sides of the glass and operate simultaneously when opening or closing the roof opening panel. The roof opening panel shield motor is connected to both sides of the shield assembly. For the roof opening panel glass, the RH motor is the primary motor and the LH motor is the secondary motor. The center motor operates the roof opening panel shield. The glass primary motor is wired directly to the switch. The primary motor sends the signals from the switch to the secondary motor and to the shield motor on a K-BUS communication circuit. The K-BUS is used only for communication between the 3 motors, not for service diagnostics. The secondary motor has 4 circuits in a single connector. The shield motor receives the switch signal for shield controls and also the full system controls for the global open and the vent position. The shield motor communicates the global open and vent data on the K-BUS.
The roof opening cable and guide assembly is connected between the motors and the glass assembly with tubes that house the cables attaching to the front lifter arms providing the movement of the roof opening panel glass. The roof opening panel shield cable and guide assembly is similar except the end of the drive cables are connected directly to the shield assembly.
Delayed Accessory Power
The accessory delay relay (non-serviceable) in the BCM controls a voltage signal to the panoramic roof opening panel primary motor allowing panoramic roof opening panel operation. The BCM activates the accessory delay relay whenever the ignition is in the RUN or ACC positions, or when the ignition is changed from RUN or ACC to the OFF position and both front doors are closed.
The BCM deactivates the accessory delay relay when:
- either front door is or becomes ajar and the ignition is in the OFF or key out position.
- 10 minutes have elapsed since the ignition was changed from the RUN or ACC position to the OFF position (with both front doors closed).
