DTC P0615 (19-21 9-Speed A/T)

DTC P0615  : Starter Cut Relay Diagnosis Circuit Malfunction

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems, .

DTC Description Confirmed DTC Pending DTC
P0615 Starter Cut Relay Diagnosis Circuit Malfunction    

DTC (PGM-FI)

  1. Problem verification

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 4. Try to start the engine.

    - 5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P0615 Starter Cut Relay Diagnosis Circuit Malfunction    

    Is DTC P0615 indicated?

    YES 

    The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at starter cut relay 1, starter cut relay 2, and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems .

  2. DTC check

    - 1. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

    P16F3 Starter Cut Relay 1 Control Circuit Low Voltage    
    P16F4 Starter Cut Relay 2 Control Circuit Low Voltage    

    Are DTC P16F3 and P16F4 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to the troubleshooting for DTC P16F3 - Refer to: DTC P16F3 (19-21 9-Speed A/T)

    and P16F4 - Refer to: DTC P16F4 (19-21 9-Speed A/T) .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Determine possible failure area (STRLD line, others)

    - 1. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 2. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 3. Try to start the engine.

    Does the engine start?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Go to step 6.

  4. Fuse check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. B17 - Refer to:
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021), or
    Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021)

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Repair a short in the STRLD wire between the PCM (A35) and the No. B17 fuse. Also replace the No. B17 fuse.

  5. Open wire check (STRLD line)

    - 1. Remove starter cut relay 1.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (50P)

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Starter cut relay 1: disconnected
    PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
    Test point 1 Starter cut relay 1 4P socket (female terminals) No. 1:
    Test point 2 PCM connector A (50P) No. 35 - Refer to:
    PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    The STRLD wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (19-21 9-Speed A/T) , then recheck. If DTC P0615 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (19-21 9-Speed A/T) .

    NO 

    Repair an open in the STRLD wire between the PCM (A35) and the No. B17 fuse, and/or in the ST CUT RLY wire between starter cut relay 1 and the No. B17 fuse. - Refer to:

    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021) or

    Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021)

  6. Fuse check

    - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Check the following fuse.

    Fuse No. C31 - Refer to:
    Fuse to Components Index (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021), or
    Fuse to Components Index (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2019 2020 2021)

    Is the fuse OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Check for a short in the IG1 START CUT wire between the No. C31 fuse and the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box. If the wire is OK, replace the under-dash fuse/relay box . Also replace the No. C31 fuse.

  7. Open wire check (IG1 START CUT line)

    - 1. Remove starter cut relay 1.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36P)

    - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

    Terminal A Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36P) No. 10
    Terminal B Body ground

    - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition
     
     
    Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
    Starter cut relay 1: disconnected
    Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36P): disconnected
    Under-dash fuse/relay box connector E (36P) No. 10: jumped to body ground
    Test point 1 Starter cut relay 1 4P socket (female terminals) No. 3:
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Repair an open in the IG1 START CUT wire between starter cut relay 1 and the under-dash fuse/relay box.

  8. Relay check

    - 1. Test starter cut relay 1.

    Is the relay OK?

    YES 

    Replace the under-dash fuse/relay box .

    NO 

    Replace starter cut relay 1.
