DTC P0453 (19-21 9-Speed A/T)

DTC P0453  : Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems .

DTC (PGM-FI)

1. EVAP system check

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 4. Insert the emergency fuel funnel into the fuel filler neck.

   NOTE:  The emergency fuel funnel is stored in the maintenance lid of the left side trim panel.

   - 5. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 6. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Do the current condition(s) match the malfunction threshold?

   YES 

   Go to step 3.

   NO 

   Go to step 2.

2. Problem verification

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Remove the emergency fuel funnel from the fuel filler neck.

   - 3. Start the engine.

   - 4. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

   - 5. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0453 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

   Does the HDS indicate FAILED?

   YES 

   The failure is duplicated. Go to step 3.

   NO 

   If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor and the PCM. If the on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the on-board snapshot - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems . If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, keep idling until a result comes on.

3. Determine possible failure area (FTP sensor, others)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

   FTP sensor 3P connector

   - 3. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
   Terminal B	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 2:

   - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 5. Check the parameter(s) below with the HDS.

   Do the current condition(s) match the malfunction threshold?

   YES 

   Go to step 4.

   NO 

   Replace the FTP sensor .

4. Determine possible failure area (SG2/SG6 line, others)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Remove the jumper wire from the FTP sensor 3P connector.

   - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

   - 4. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle ON mode
   	FTP sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   Test point 1	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
   Test point 2	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 3:

   Is there about 5.0 V?

   YES 

   Go to step 5.

   NO 

   Go to step 6.

5. Open wire check (PTANK line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

   - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

   PCM connector A (50P)

   - 4. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 2:
   Terminal B	Body ground

   - 5. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	FTP sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   	FTP sensor 3P connector No. 2: jumped to body ground
   	PCM connector A (50P): disconnected
   Test point 1	PCM connector A (50P) No. 19 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The PTANK wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting, or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) , then recheck. If DTC P0453 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the PTANK wire between the PCM (A19) and the FTP sensor.

6. Open wire check (SG2/SG6 line)

   - 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

   - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, and wait more than 1 minute.

   - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

   PCM connector E (80P)

   - 4. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.

   Terminal A	FTP sensor 3P connector (female terminals) No. 1:
   Terminal B	Body ground

   - 5. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

   Test condition	Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
   	FTP sensor 3P connector: disconnected
   	FTP sensor 3P connector No. 1: jumped to body ground
   	PCM connector E (80P): disconnected
   Test point 1	PCM connector E (80P) No. 58 - Refer to: PCM Connector for Inputs and Outputs (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) .
   Test point 2	Body ground

   Is there continuity?

   YES 

   The SG2/SG6 wire is OK. Check for any authorized service information related to the DTCs or symptoms you are troubleshooting or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) , then recheck. If DTC P0453 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (9-Speed A/T) (2019 2020 2021) .

   NO 

   Repair an open in the SG2/SG6 wire between the PCM (E58) and the FTP sensor.
