DTC P0713: ATF Temperature Sensor (Open)
- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot with the HDS, and review General Troubleshooting Information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check the ATF Temp Sensor (V) with the HDS in the A/T Data List.
Does the ATF Temp Sensor (V) exceed 4.93 V?
YES -Go to step 3.
NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor connector at the transmission end cover.
- Connect ATF temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check the ATF Temp Sensor (V) with the HDS in the A/T Data List.
Does the ATF Temp Sensor (V) read to 0.07 V or below?
YES -Go to step 8.
NO -Go to step 13.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the jumper wire.
- Connect ATF temperature sensor connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check the ATF Temp Sensor (V) with the HDS in the A/T Data List.
Does the ATF Temp Sensor (V) read 0.07 V or below?
YES -Replace the ATF temperature sensor (see ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPLACEMENT ), then go to step 18.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between PCM connector terminal C16 and the ATF temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2, then go to step 18.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the jumper wire.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (49P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C33 and ATF temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1.Fig 3: Checking Continuity Between PCM Connector Terminal C33 And ATF Temperature Sensor Connector Terminal No. 1

Is there continuity?
YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM. If the connections are OK, go to step 24.
NO -Repair an open in the wire between PCM connector terminal C33 and the ATF temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1, then go to step 18.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine in P, and wait for at least 20 seconds.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTC with the HDS.
Is DTC P0713 indicated?
YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1.
NO -Go to step 23.
- Monitor the OBD status for P0713 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the HDS Indicate PASSED?
YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTC were indicated in step 22, go to the INDICATED DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING .
NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals between the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 21.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see PCM UPDATE ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ).
- Start the engine in P, and wait for at least 20 seconds.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTC with the HDS.
Is DTC P0713 indicated?
YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ), then go to step 26. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -Go to step 28.
- Monitor the OBD status for P0713 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the HDS indicate PASSED?
YES -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see PCM REPLACEMENT ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTC were indicated in step 27, go to the INDICATED DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING .
NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals between the ATF temperature sensor and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see SUBSTITUTING THE PCM ), then go to step 26. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 26.
