Automatic Lighting Control Unit Input Test/Replacement

NOTE: Before testing, troubleshoot the multiplex integrated control unit first, using B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  2. Disconnect the 14P connector (A) from the automatic lighting control unit (B).

  3. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals are OK, go to step 4.
  4. With the connector still disconnected, do the following input tests.
    • If any tests indicate a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 5.
Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
3 LT GRN Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 3 and under-dash fuse/relay box connector T (34P) terminal No. 29: There should be continuity. An open in the B-CAN wire
4 WHT Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 4 and under-dash fuse/relay box connector T (34P) terminal No. 12: There should be continuity. An open in the B-CAN wire
5 BLU / WHT Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 5 and automatic lighting sensor 5P connector terminal No. 1: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
6 BLU / RED Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 6 and automatic lighting sensor 5P connector terminal No. 3: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
14 BLU / BLK Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 14 and automatic lighting sensor 5P connector terminal No. 5: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
1 LT GRN Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal No. 1 and under-dash fuse/relay box connector S (20P) terminal No. 11: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire
  5. Reconnect the connectors, then do the following input tests.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, replace the automatic lighting control unit.
Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained
11 BLK Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground: There should be less than 0.2 V.
    • Poor ground (G403)
    • An open or high resistance in the ground wire
    12
7 PNK Ignition switch ON (II) Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 8 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • An open or high resistance in the wire
    • Faulty under-dash fuse/relay box
9 BRN Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 7 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box
    • An open or high resistance in the wire
    • Faulty under-dash fuse/relay box
