Multi-information Switch Test/Replacement

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ), and precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or servicing.
  1. Remove the driver's airbag assembly (see DRIVER'S AIRBAG REPLACEMENT ).
  2. Disconnect the 20P connector (A) from the cable reel.

  3. Check for continuity between cable reel 20P connector terminals No. 16 and No. 17. There should be continuity.
    • If the check is OK, but the system does not operate, check for the cable reel or audio remote switch.
    • If the check is not as specified, go to step 4.
  4. Remove the three screws (A), then remove the steering wheel trim (B), and disconnect connectors (C) from each switches.

  5. Remove the cover (D).
  6. Remove the switch mounting screws, then remove the multi-information switch (E) from the steering wheel trim.
  7. Measure the resistance between terminals No. 1 and No. 5 in each position according to the table.
    Position Resistance
    About 33 Ω
    SEL/RESET About 1043 Ω
    About 363 Ω
  8. If the resistance is not as specified or LED does not turn on, replace the multi-information switch. If the switch is OK, but there is a problem with the switch function, check the cable reel or the audio remote switch.
