Electrical Compass Troubleshooting (With Display Audio) (2017)
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first .
- Check for B-CAN DTCs and resolve them before troubleshooting.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification 1
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Check if the azimuth (direction) information is displayed in the multi-information display unit.
Is the azimuth (direction) information displayed?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Go to step 6.
- Problem verification 2
-1. Check if the multi-information display unit is flashing the CAL and the NW.
Are the CAL and the NW flashing?
YES
Reboot the electrical compass unit, and recheck. If the symptom is still present, replace the electrical compass unit .
NO
Go to step 3.
- Compass calibration check
-1. Do the Electrical Compass Calibration.
Is the calibration completed?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
Go to step 4.
- System Diagnostic Mode check
-1. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the System Links to check the B-CAN icon status.
Is the B-CAN icon green?
YES
Replace the electrical compass unit .
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (B-CAN_H line, B-CAN_L line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
NOTE: Eject the disc before disconnecting the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player load mechanism.Audio unit connector B (20P) Gauge control module 32P connector - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

YES
Replace the audio unit - Refer to: Audio Unit Removal and Installation (Without Navigation, With Touch Screen) (2014 2015), or Audio Unit Removal and Installation (Without Navigation, Without Touch Screen), or Audio Unit Removal and Installation (With Display Audio) (2017) .
NO
Repair an open in the wire (s) between the audio unit and the gauge control module.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Electrical compass unit 6P connector - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 5 Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
The GND wire is OK. Go to step 7.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the electrical compass unit and body ground (G652).
- Open wire check (IG1 METER line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Test point 1 Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 6 Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The IG1 METER wire is OK. Go to step 8.
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the No. B5 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the electrical compass unit.
- Shorted wire check (COMPASS lines)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connector.
Audio unit connector J (28P) - 3. Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Audio unit connector J (28P): disconnected Connector Terminal Electrical compass unit 6P connector No. 4 No. 3 No. 2 No. 1 Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to body ground in the wire (s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.
NO
The COMPASS wires are not shorted to ground. Go to step 9.
- Open wire check (COMPASS lines)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Electrical compass unit 6P connector: disconnected Audio unit connector J (28P): disconnected Test point 1: Audio unit connector J (28P)
Test point 2: Electrical compass unit 6P connector
No. 7 No. 4 No. 8 No. 3 No. 23 No. 2 No. 24 No. 1 Is there continuity?
YES
The COMPASS wires are OK. Go to step 10.
NO
Repair an open in the wire (s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit.
- Electrical compass unit check (substitution)
-1. Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit.
- 2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original electrical compass unit .
NO
Replace the audio unit - Refer to: Audio Unit Removal and Installation (Without Navigation, With Touch Screen) (2014 2015), or Audio Unit Removal and Installation (Without Navigation, Without Touch Screen), or Audio Unit Removal and Installation (With Display Audio) (2017) .
