Gauges System Description - Control/Function

Speedometer and Tachometer

The PCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN.

Based on this input, the gauge control module displays the current speed in the speedometer.

Ambient Meter

The ambient meter shows real-time driving information by color on the both sides of the speedometer which promotes fuel-efficient driving. When the color is close to green, it means low fuel consumption driving, and the color is close to blue, it means higher fuel consumption driving.

ECON Display

Pressing the ECON switch will display the ECON mode indicator and information in the MID. The ECON switch signal is sent to the PGM-FI ECU via the F-CAN bus, and to the auto control unit via the F-CAN bus. The PCM calculates the fuel efficiency based on the signals from each sensor (speed, fuel oil consumption, mileage, circulating water temperature, etc.), then sends the tone change signal to the ambient meter in the gauge control module. The tone change signal consists of blue, blue green, green and light-OFF.

Charge/ Motor assist meter

The gauge control module receives information from the motor via F-CAN, and displays the charging and discharging state of the high voltage battery. The gauge control module displays the charging and discharging state of the high voltage battery.

High Voltage Battery Charge Level Gauge

The gauge control module displays the remaining high voltage battery charge level.

Fuel Gauge and Fuel Indicator

The gauge control module displays the fuel gauge based on input value from the fuel gauge sending unit (the fuel tank unit).

The low fuel indicator turns on in the event that indication of the fuel gauge becomes lower than the minimum tank fill threshold.

Multi-Information Display

The multi-information display provides the odometer/trip meter, ambient temperature, average fuel economy, available cruising range, instantaneous fuel economy, passing time, ECO guide, ACC, LKAS, CMBS, energy flow, rear seat belt reminder, average speed and the status of the keyless access system. In addition, the diagnostic system displays the communication errors and the DTCs.

ODO Meter and Trip Meter

The PCM provides a vehicle speed signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN.

Based on this input, the gauge control module tracks mileage for the odometer and trip meters.

The mileage values are displayed in the multi-information display.

Engine Coolant Temperature

The PCM provides a engine coolant temperature signal to the gauge control module using the F-CAN. When the engine coolant temperature is high, the gauge control module displays the ATTENTION or CAUTION warning in the multi-information display.

Outside Air Temperature

The gauge control module uses the temperature sensor signal from the climate control unit via the B-CAN.

The outside air temperature indicator's displayed temperature can be recalibrated 5 °F (3 °C) to meet the customer's expectations.

Average Fuel economy records, Average Fuel Economy/Instant Fuel Economy, Range, Elapsed time display, Average speed display

The gauge control module receives signals such as fuel consumption, driving distance, vehicle speed and engine speed from the PCM via F-CAN communication.

It calculates instant/average fuel economy and range.

Select Position

The PCM provides the transmission selector position to the gauge control module using the F-CAN.

Based on this data, the gauge control module displays the current shift position.

Gauge Control Module Receives Information

The gauge control module receives information from each control unit via F-CAN and B-CAN communication to light or flash the indicators.

The parking brake switch, washer fluid level switch, multi-information switch, ECON switch, steering wheel switches, and brake fluid level switch are connected directly to the gauge control module.

The turn signal indicator signal is sent from the MICU.

Keyless Access System

The gauge control module receives information from the keyless access control unit via B-CAN communication to display status of the keyless access system.

Buzzer

The gauge control module includes a buzzer to provide the driver with audible warnings.

Illumination Control

With the exterior lights are off, the system is in the lights off state. Brightness can be adjusted using the dash lights brightness controls.

When the gauge control module receives the remote start signal via the B-CAN, the gauge control module turns off the illumination brightness.

Driver Feedback System

The gauge control module receives the ECO drive profile data that is accumulated in the PCM via F-CAN, and the ECO drive information is displayed on the ambient meter and the Eco guide feedback monitor.

Real-Time Driving Information Display

The multi-information display shows the ECO drive profile data from the PCM with the ambient meter and the ECO drive display in the multi-information display.

ECO Assist System on the Multi-Information Display (MID)

When the ECON switch is pushed, the ECON switch display (ON/OFF) appears for about 6 seconds in the Multi-information Display when the vehicle is first turned to the ON mode, and the ECON mode indicator in the gauge control module turns on. After that, Multi-information Display screen returns to the previous screen. Turning the power switch to ON mode displays the ECO score (ECO profile data) and the ECO stage indicator (Life time points) for 6 seconds.
