DTC U0056-00: CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off (2014)

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (2014-15) .

DTC Description DTC
U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

  2. Shorted unit check (EPS control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    EPS control unit connector A (11P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the EPS control unit .

  3. Shorted unit check (audio/navigation unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Audio-navigation unit connector F (24P) - Refer to: Audio-Navigation Unit Removal and Installation (2014-15)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Replace the audio-navigation unit - Refer to: Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2014) .

  4. Shorted unit check (steering angle sensor)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Steering angle sensor 4P connector

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Replace the steering angle sensor .

  5. Shorted unit check (SRS unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    SRS unit connector A (39P)

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Update the SRS unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good SRS unit , then recheck. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the SRS unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the SRS unit was substituted, replace the original SRS unit .

  6. Shorted unit check (VSA modulator-control unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    VSA modulator-control unit 21P connector

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 7.

    NO 

    Update the VSA modulator-control unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit , then recheck. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the VSA modulator-control unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the VSA modulator-control unit was substituted, replace the original VSA modulator-control unit .

  7. Shorted unit check (ACC unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    ACC unit 20P connector

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Update the ACC unit if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ACC unit , then recheck. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the ACC unit was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0056-00 goes away and the ACC unit was substituted, replace the original ACC unit .

  8. Shorted unit check (FCW/LDW camera unit)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    U0056-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch C Bus Off  

    Is DTC U0056-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 9.

    NO 

    Replace the FCW/LDW camera unit .

  9. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_H line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    CAN gateway 24P connector - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Audio/navigation unit connector F (24P): disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 21P connector
    ACC unit 20P connector: disconnected
    FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 9 (ORN)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_H wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 10.

  10. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Audio/navigation unit connector F (24P): disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 21P connector
    ACC unit 20P connector: disconnected
    FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PUR)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_L wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 11.

  11. Shorted wire check (F-CAN C_H line to F-CAN C_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      EPS control unit connector A (11P): disconnected
    Audio/navigation unit connector F (24P): disconnected
    Steering angle sensor 4P connector: disconnected
    SRS unit connector A (39P): disconnected
    VSA modulator-control unit 21P connector
    ACC unit 20P connector: disconnected
    FCW/LDW camera unit 10P connector: disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN C_H, F-CAN C_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 9 (ORN)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 8 (PUR)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN C_H wire to F-CAN C_L wire between CAN gateway terminals No. 8 and No. 9.

    NO 

    Update the CAN gateway if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good CAN gateway - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15) , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was substituted, replace the original CAN gateway - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15) .
