DTC U0029-00: CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off (2014-15)

NOTE:  Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (2014-15) .

DTC Description DTC
U0029-00 CAN Gateway F-CAN ch A Bus Off  

DTC (CAN GATEWAY)

  1. Problem verification

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 2.

    NO 

    Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the freeze data/on-board snapshot of this DTC is recorded, try to reproduce the failure under the same conditions with the freeze data/on-board snapshot.

  2. Shorted unit check (gauge control module)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Gauge control module connector A (32P)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 3.

    NO 

    Replace the gauge control module .

  3. Shorted unit check (PCM)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

    - 3. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCM connector A (51P) - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (2014-15)

    - 4. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 5. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 7. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 8. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2014-15) , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM - Refer to: PCM Removal and Installation (2014-15) .

  4. Shorted unit check (PCU)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    PCU 33P connector - Refer to: PCU Removal and Installation (2014-15)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 5.

    NO 

    Update the PCU if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCU - Refer to: PCU Removal and Installation (2014-15) , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCU was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the PCU was substituted, replace the original PCU - Refer to: PCU Removal and Installation (2014-15) .

  5. Shorted unit check (battery condition monitor module)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    Battery condition monitor module connector C (40P) - Refer to: Battery Condition Monitor Module Removal and Installation (2014-15)

    - 3. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.

    - 4. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

    - 5. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 6. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and wait 6 seconds.

    - 7. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

    Is DTC U0029-00 indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Update the battery condition monitor module if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good battery condition monitor module , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the battery condition monitor module was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the battery condition monitor module was substituted, replace the original battery condition monitor module - Refer to: Battery Condition Monitor Module Removal and Installation (2014-15) .

  6. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line)

    -1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.

    - 2. Disconnect the following connector.

    CAN gateway 24P connector - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15)

    - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    PCU 33P connector: disconnected
    Battery condition monitor module connector C (40P): disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN A_H
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 (WHT)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  7. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    PCU 33P connector: disconnected
    Battery condition monitor module connector C (40P): disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN A_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 (RED)
    Test point 2 Body ground

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_L wire between the CAN gateway and the connected units.

    NO 

    Go to step 8.

  8. Shorted wire check (F-CAN A_H line to F-CAN A_L line)

    -1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

    Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode
      Gauge control module connector A (32P): disconnected
    PCM connector A (51P): disconnected
    PCU 33P connector: disconnected
    Battery condition monitor module connector C (40P): disconnected
    CAN gateway 24P connector: disconnected
    Test circuit F-CAN A_H, F-CAN A_L
    Test point 1 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 14 (WHT)
    Test point 2 CAN gateway 24P connector No. 15 (RED)

    Is there continuity?

    YES 

    Repair a short in the F-CAN A_H wire to F-CAN A_L wire between CAN gateway terminals No. 14 and No. 15.

    NO 

    Update the CAN gateway if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good CAN gateway - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15) , then recheck. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the DTC U0029-00 goes away and the CAN gateway was substituted, replace the original CAN gateway - Refer to: CAN Gateway Removal and Installation (2014-15) .
