DTC 85-79: OPDS Sensor Initial Check Failure

NOTE:
  1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).

    Is DTC 85-79 indicated? 

    YES  -Go to step  4.

    NO  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES  . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  5. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
  6. Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).
  7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  8. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).

    Is DTC 85-79 indicated? 

    YES  -Go to step  9.

    NO  -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES  . If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

  9. Clear the DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).
  10. Do the ODS unit initialization (see ODS UNIT INITIALIZATION  ).
  11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
  12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
  13. Check for DTCs with the HDS (see HOW TO CLEAR DTCS  ).

    Is DTC 85-79 indicated? 

    YES  -Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit (see ODS UNIT REPLACEMENT  ), then clear the DTC and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the OPDS sensor/front passenger's seat-back cover/pad (see SEAT-BACK COVER REPLACEMENT ) with equipped OPDS sensor, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit (see SRS UNIT REPLACEMENT  ).

    NO  -The system is OK.
