Shift Lever Housing Replacement

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Take care not to scratch the center console, dashboard, and related parts.
  1. Sports type: Insert the appropriate trim tool into the slit (A) of the shift lever trim (B) to detach the clips (C).

  2. Sports type: Gently pry up along the edge of the shift lever trim to detach the hooks (D) and the clips (E), then reverse the shift lever boot (F).
  3. Sports type: Release the hooks (G) from the shift lever boot ring (H), then lower the shift lever boot.
  4. Sports type: Loosen the shift lever boot ring (A), then remove the shift lever knob (B) and the shift lever boot ring from the shift lever (C).

  5. Sports type: Remove the shift lever trim (D).
  6. Normal type: Insert the appropriate trim tool into the slit (A) of the shift-lever trim (B) to detach the clips (C).

  7. Normal type: Gently pry up along the edge of the shift lever trim to detach the hooks (D) and the clips (E).
  8. Normal type: Lower the shift lever boot (F) to release the hooks (G) from the boot, then remove the shift lever knob (H).
  9. Normal type: Remove the shift lever trim.
  10. Remove the center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  11. Remove the lock pin (A) and the washer (B).

  12. Rotate the shift cable (C) counterclockwise, then disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever housing.
  13. Remove the shift cable clip (A).

  14. Expand the clamp (B), then disconnect the shift cable (C) from the shift lever (D).
  15. Remove the shift lever housing (A).

  16. Install the shift lever housing (A).

  17. Connect the shift cable (A) to the shift lever (B).

  18. Install a new shift cable clip (C).
  19. Rotate the shift cable (A) clockwise, then connect the shift cable to the shift lever housing.

  20. Install the washer (B) and the lock pin (C).
  21. Install the center console (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
  22. Sports type: Install the shift lever trim (A) over the shift lever (B).

  23. Sports type: Install and turn the shift lever boot ring (C) until it reaches the bottom of the threads on the shift lever.
  24. Sports type: Turn the shift lever knob (D) until the shift lever knob contacts the shift lever boot ring.
  25. Sports type: Tighten the shift lever boot ring and the shift lever knob together with the shift pattern properly aligned.
  26. Sports type: Connect the shift lever boot (A) to the shift lever boot ring (B)

  27. Sports type: Install the shift lever trim (C) to the center console.
  28. Normal type: Install the shift lever trim (A) to the center console.

  29. Normal type: Install the shift lever knob (B) on the shift lever (C), then connect the shift lever boot (D) to the shift lever knob.
    NOTE: Tighten the shift lever knob until the shift pattern is properly aligned.
  30. Check the shift lever operation.
