Parking Brake Inspection and Adjustment: Adjustment

NOTE: After servicing the rear brake caliper, loosen the parking brake adjusting nut, start the engine, and press the brake pedal several times to set the self-adjusting brake before adjusting the parking brake.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle (see LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS ).
  2. Release the parking brake lever fully.
  3. Pull out the rear console (A) (see REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

  4. Loosen the parking brake adjusting nut (B).
  5. Make sure the lever (A) on the rear brake caliper contacts the stop pin (B).
    NOTE: When the parking brake lever does not contact the stop pin, loosen the adjusting nut in the center console until the parking brake lever contacts the stop pin, then start the engine, and press the brake pedal several times.

  6. Pull the parking brake lever 1 click.
  7. Tighten the parking brake adjusting nut until the parking brakes drag slightly when the rear wheels are turned.
  8. Release the parking brake lever fully, and check that the parking brakes do not drag when the rear wheels are turned. Readjust if necessary.
  9. Make sure the parking brake lever within the specified number of clicks (5 to 7 clicks).
  10. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
    • Push the clips into place securely.
