DTC B1281: Front Wiper MIST Position Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1282: Front Wiper INT (AUTO) Position Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1283: Front Wiper LOW Position Circuit Malfunction; DTC B1284: Front Wiper HIGH Position Circuit Malfunction

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).

Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
Operate each windshield wiper switch position, then turn the wiper/washer switch OFF.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1281, B1282, B1283, or B1284 indicated?

YES -Go to step 5.

NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.
Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL menu.

Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

When the windshield wiper switch is OFF:

DATA LIST REFERENCE

Data List	Value
Windshield Wiper Switch (LOW)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (HIGH)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (MIST)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (INT)	OFF

Are all data list values indicated OFF?

YES -Go to step 15.

NO -Go to step 7.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Disconnect the wiper/washer switch 8P connector.
Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL menu.

Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

DATA LIST REFERENCE

Data List	Value
Windshield Wiper Switch (LOW)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (HIGH)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (MIST)	OFF
Windshield Wiper Switch (INT)	OFF

Are all data list values indicated OFF?

YES -Replace the wiper/washer switch (see WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ).

NO -Go to step 12.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Disconnect the under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (34P).
Check for continuity between body ground and under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (34P) terminals No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 individually.

Is there continuity?

YES -Repair a short to ground in the wire.

NO -Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

When the windshield wiper switch is ON (LOW):

When the windshield wiper switch is ON (HIGH):

Are all data list values correct?

YES -Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box.

USA models (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
Canada models (see CANADA MODELS )

NO -Go to step 16.

Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Do the wiper/washer switch test (see WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ).
Is the wiper/washer switch OK?

YES -Go to step 18.

NO -Replace the wiper/washer switch (see WIPER/WASHER SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ).
Disconnect under-dash fuse/relay box connectors Q (34P) and Y (16P).

Check for continuity between under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (34P) and Y (16P) terminals and the wiper/washer switch 8P connector terminals as shown:

Is there continuity?

YES -Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box.

USA models (see REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION )
Canada models (see CANADA MODELS )

NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.
