Symptom Troubleshooting: No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal)

No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (without navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first.

- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.

- Before performing symptom troubleshooting, do the power switch will not turn on troubleshooting. Symptom Troubleshooting

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Check for sound in each mode (AM, FM, XM, and CD).

Is the sound OK in each mode?
YES - Intermittent failure. The system is OK at this time. Check for loose connections at the navigation unit and speaker(s).

NO - Go to step 3.

3. Check that the volume button is not set to the min level.

Is it at the MIN level?
YES - Raise the volume level, and recheck the function.

NO - Go to step 4.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Check the speaker(s) with no sound for any damage.

Is there any damage?
YES - Substitute the speaker, and recheck.

NO - Go to step 6.

6. Remove the speaker(s) with no sound, Service and Repair and disconnect its connector.

7. Check the speaker 2P connector and the subwoofer 4P connector for a loose or poor connection.

Reconnect the connector, and recheck the symptom; does it still fail?
YES -
- EX and SC models: Go to step 14.

- LX model: Go to step 8.

NO - Operation is normal.

8. Make sure the ignition switch is turned to LOCK (0).

9. Remove the audio unit, Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation) and disconnect audio unit connector A (20P).
NOTE: Eject all the CDs before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.

10. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector A (20P) and body ground according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the speaker.

NO - Go to step 11.

11. Disconnect the connector(s) to the speaker(s).

12. Connect the speaker connector terminal (+) and (-) with a jumper wire.

13. Check for continuity between both pairs of speaker wires (+) and (-) at the audio unit connector A (20P).

14. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector A (14P).

15. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (14P) No. 11 terminal and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 16.

NO - Repair open in the wire between No. 7 (20 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse box and stereo amplifier connector A (14P) No. 11 terminal.

16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

17. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector B (16P).

18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and push the PWR button on the audio unit.

19. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (16P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 20.

NO - Repair open in the wire between audio unit connector A (20P) terminal No. 1 and stereo amplifier connector B (16P) terminal No. 1.

20. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

21. Reconnect stereo amplifier connector A (14P), and connector B (16P).

22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

23. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (14P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.

Is there less than 0.1 V on both terminals?
YES - Go to step 24.

NO - Repair open in the wire between stereo amplifier connector B (16P) terminal No. 10 and body ground (G503).

24. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

25. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector A (14P).

26. Check for continuity between the stereo amplifier connector A (14P) and body ground according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker.

NO - Go to step 27.

27. Disconnect the connector(s) from the speaker(s).

28. Connect the speaker connector terminal (+) and (-) with a jumper wire.

29. Check for continuity between both pairs of speaker wires (+) and (-) at the stereo amplifier connector A (14P).

Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 30.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the stereo amplifier and the speaker.

30. Disconnect the jumper wire.

31. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector A (20P).
NOTE: Eject all the CDs before removing the audio unit to prevent damaging the CD player's load mechanism.

32. Check for continuity between audio unit connector A (20P) and body ground according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 33.

33. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector A (20P) according to the table.

Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES - There is a short in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 34.

34. Check for continuity between audio unit connector A (20P) and stereo amplifier connector B (16P) according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 35.

NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

35. Disconnect audio unit connector B (8P).

36. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (8P) and body ground according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 37.

37. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (8P) and body ground according to the table.

38. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (8P) and stereo amplifier connector B (16P) according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - Substitute a known-good audio unit, Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation) and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit. If symptom is still present, substitute a known-good stereo amplifier, Service and Repair and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original stereo amplifier.

NO - There is an open in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
