DTC 86

DTC 86: F-CAN Communication

1. Clear the DTC using the HDS.
2. Start and run the engine for at least 5 seconds then turn the engine off.
3. Check for DTCs using the HDS.
Is DTC 86 indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, the F-CAN communication line is OK at this time.

4. Check for DTCs in the PCM.
Are any DTCs indicated?
YES - Troubleshoot the PCM DTCs.
NO - Check for loose terminals in the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector. Inspect for loose or poor ground at G302. If necessary, substitute a known-good VSA modulator-control unit, and recheck.
