DTC B1176: Fuel Gauge Unit (Fuel Gauge Sending Unit) Circuit Short
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II).
- Wait more than 30 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1176 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the fuel level sensor circuit is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the fuel tank unit 4P connector.
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II).
- Wait more than 30 seconds. 10. Check for DTCs with the HDS.NOTE: If DTC1175 is indicated after the fuel tank unit 4P connector is disconnected, the fuel gauge sending unit is faulty.
Is DTC B1176 indicated?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Replace the fuel gauge sending unit (see FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT TEST ).
- Disconnect gauge control module connector A (20P).
- Check for continuity between gauge control module connector A (20P) No. 18 terminal and body ground.Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between Gauge Control Module Connector A (20P) Terminal 18 And Body Ground

Are there continuity?
YES - Repair a short in the wire between the gauge control module and the fuel tank unit.
NO - Replace the gauge control module.
