DTC B1170: Gauge Control Module Lost Communication with the ABS Modulator-Control Unit (ABS message)
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF, and then back ON (II).
- Wait for 6 seconds or more.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1170 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections between the gauge control module and the ABS modulator-control unit.

).
Is any DTCs indicated?
YES - Go to the indicated DTCs, then recheck.
NO - Go to step 6.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect gauge control module connector C (40P).
- Disconnect the ABS modulator-control unit 25P connector.
- Connect gauge control module connector C (40P) No. 12 and No. 13 terminals and body ground with jumper wires.
- Check for continuity between the ABS modulator-control unit 25P connector No. 1 and No. 17 terminals and body ground individually.Fig 2: Checking Continuity Between ABS Modulator-Control Unit 25P Connector Terminal 1 And Body Ground

Is there less than 3 Ω ?
YES - Substitute a known-good ABS modulator-control unit, and recheck. If the indication goes away, replace the original ABS modulator-control unit. If the DTC is still present, replace the gauge control module (see GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT ).
NO - Repair an open in the wire.
