Gauge Assembly Input Test

NOTE: If there is malfunction of the parking brake reminder and speedometer function simultaneously, troubleshooting the vehicle speed signal circuit first.
  1. Remove the gauge assembly and disconnect the all connectors from the gauge assembly (see GAUGE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT  ).
  2. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals look OK, go to step 3.

  3. Reconnect the connectors to the gauge assembly, and make these input tests at the connector.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, the gauge internal circuit must be faulty; replace the gauge assembly.
      TEST CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSES CHART

      Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if result is not obtained
      C7 WHT/RED Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
      • Blown No. 13 (7.5 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box
      • An open in the wire
      C8 YEL Ignition switch ON (II) Check for voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage.
      • Blown No. 9 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
      • An open in the wire
      C9 BLK Under all conditions Check for voltage to ground: There should be less than 1V.
      • Poor ground (G502)
      • An open in the wire
      A23 RED/BLU Ignition switch ON (II), driver's seat belt unbuckled Check for voltage to ground: There should be 1 V or less.
      • Poor ground (G601)
      • Faulty driver's seat belt switch
      • An open in the wire
      Ignition switch ON (II), driver's seat belt buckled Check for voltage to ground: There should be 5 V or more.
      • Faulty driver's seat belt switch
      • A short to ground
      B17 GRN/RED Ignition switch ON (II), parking brake set Check for voltage to ground: There should be 1 V or less.
      • Poor ground (G601)
      • Faulty parking brake switch
      • An open in the wire
      Ignition switch ON (II), parking brake released Check for voltage to ground: There should be 5 V or more.
      • Faulty parking brake switch
      • A short to ground
