Front Brake Pads: Installation

Install pad retainers. Apply Dow Corning Molykote M77 grease to both sides of pad shim, and back of pads. Wipe excess grease off shim. Install brake pads and pad shims correctly. Install pads with wear indicators on inside. If you are reusing pads, reinstall brake pads in their original positions. Push in piston so caliper will fit over pads. Check brake fluid level. Brake fluid may overflow if reservoir is too full. Make sure piston boot is in position to prevent damaging it when pivoting caliper down. Hold pads on both sides firmly with you fingers, and install NEW pad springs on pads. Holding pads, set caliper over pads by pivoting down slowly. Insert pad spring ends into pad installation holes securely. Pivot caliper down into position. Be careful not to damage pin boots. Install flange bolt, and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Press brake pedal several times to make sure brakes work, then test drive. Check for leaks at hose joints and connections.

NOTE: Engagement of brake may require a greater pedal stroke immediately after brake pads have been replaced as a set. Several applications of brake pedal will restore normal pedal stroke.
