SRS Indicator Light Does Not Come On
WARNING:
Whenever ignition is on, or has been turned off for less than 3 minutes, be careful not to bump SRS unit. Air bags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or injury.
- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition on, and check whether other indicator lights come on (brake system, etc.). If other indicator lights operate, go to step 3 . If other indicator lights do not operate, check fuse No. 25 (7.5-amp) in underdash fuse-relay box. See Fig 1 . Replace fuse if blown. If SRS indicator light still does not come on, or if fuse is okay, go to next step.
- Check for open in wire harness between fuse No. 25 and gauge assembly, and repair if necessary. If SRS indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove gauge assembly. See Fig 2 . Check SRS indicator light bulb. If light bulb is okay, go to next step. Replace bulb if faulty, and reconnect gauge assembly connectors. Turn ignition on. If SRS indicator light does not come on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect dashboard wire harness 5-pin connector from gauge assembly. Connect a voltmeter between terminal No. 1 of 5-pin connector and ground. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on and measure voltage. If voltage is 8.5 volts or less for 6 seconds after ignition is turned on, replace SRS printed circuit board in gauge assembly. If voltage is greater than 8.5 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect main wire harness 24-pin connector from dashboard wire harness. See Fig 3 . Connect a voltmeter between terminal No. 5 of main wire harness 24-pin connector and ground. Turn ignition on and measure voltage. If voltage is 8.5 volts or less for 6 seconds after ignition is turned on, repair short to power in Blue wire of dashboard wire harness. If voltage is greater than 8.5 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SRS main harness 3-pin connector from main wire harness. See Fig 4 . Connect a voltmeter between terminal No. 1 of SRS main harness 3-pin connector and ground. Turn ignition on and measure voltage. If voltage is 8.5 volts or less for 6 seconds after ignition is turned on, repair short to power in Blue wire of main wire harness. If voltage is greater than 8.5 volts, go to next step.
- Disable air bags and seat belt tensioners. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect SRS main harness 18-pin connector from SRS unit. See Fig 5 . Reconnect battery cables. Connect a voltmeter between terminal No. 6 of SRS main harness 18-pin connector and ground. Turn ignition on and measure voltage. If voltage is greater than 0.5 volt, replace SRS main harness. If voltage is 0.5 volt or less, replace SRS unit. See SRS UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
