No DTC: SRS Indicator Light Comes On After Self-Diagnosis
WARNING:
Whenever ignition is on, or has been turned off for less than 3 minutes, be careful not to bump SRS unit. Air bags could accidentally deploy and cause damage or injury.
- Turn ignition off. Check for blown fuse No. 13 (15-amp) in underdash fuse-relay box. See Figure . If fuse is okay, go to step 4 . Replace fuse if blown. Turn ignition on, and check fuse again. If fuse is blown, go to next step. If fuse is okay, system is okay at this time. See TROUBLESHOOTING INTERMITTENT FAILURES under DIAGNOSTICS.
- Disable air bags and seat belt tensioners. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect SRS main harness 18-pin connector from SRS unit. See Figure . Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 of SRS main harness 18-pin connector and ground. if resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is one megohm or greater, replace SRS unit. See SRS UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disconnect SRS main harness 2-pin connector from underdash fuse-relay box. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between terminal No. 7 of SRS main harness 18-pin connector and ground. See Figure . If resistance is one megohm or greater, replace underdash fuse-relay box. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace SRS main harness.
- Disable air bags and seat belt tensioners. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect SRS main harness 18-pin connector from SRS unit. See Figure . Reconnect battery cables. Connect voltmeter between terminal No. 7 of SRS main harness 18-pin connector and ground. Turn ignition on and measure voltage. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, check for poor contact at SRS main harness 18-pin connector. If connector is okay, substitute known-good SRS unit and recheck. If problem still exists, replace SRS main harness.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect SRS main harness 2-pin connector from underdash fuse-relay box. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between terminal No. 1 of SRS main harness 2-pin connector and terminal No. 7 of SRS main harness 18-pin connector. See Figure . If resistance is 0-0.5 ohms, check for poor contact at SRS main harness 2-pin connector. If connector is okay, substitute known-good SRS unit and recheck. If problem still exists, replace SRS main harness. If resistance is not 0-0.5 ohms, replace SRS main harness.
